Thomas Malory, The Romance of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, abridged from Malory's Morte D'Arthur. Edited by Alfred W. Pollard, illustrated by Alfred W. Rackham [London: Macmillan, 1917]

This is one of the best examples of famous modern illustrated editions of Malory's Morte Darthur. It contains a modern abridged English version. It had an impact on the way in which subsequent generations – and modern Arthurian writers – received the Arthurian stories.

Arthur Rackham (1867-1939) is now recognised as a leading book illustrator of the 'Golden Age' of the British book illustration (from 1890 to the First World War). Many of his books were deluxe limited editions, and were sold primarily as Christmas gifts. His contributions to the printing of the Arthurian legend have become popular after his death.
